Gallery Concerts
Twenty-Three Years of Excellence
Founded in 1989 by harpsichordist Jillon Stoppels Dupree, Gallery
Concerts took its name from its first venues—art galleries in
In 1991 fortepianist and music historian George Bozarth joined Jillon as Co-Artistic Director, and in 2007 he became sole Artistic Director when Jillon assumed the role of Founding Director. Over the years much artistic guidance has been provided by fortepianist Tamara Friedman. In past seasons we have mounted three festivals, “The Governor’s Chickering” in November 2007, “A Most Unusual Brahms Festival” in November 2008, celebrating Johannes Brahms’s 175th birthday, and a Bach Festival to commemorate the 325th anniversary of the birth of Johann Sebastian Bach in March 2010. Last season Gallery Concerts took part in the city-wide American Handel Festival.
Since leaving the galleries of
Gallery Concerts has established mutually supportive relationships with Classic KING FM 98.1 and the Queen Anne/Magnolia News, and has been pleased to have the regular support of the Mayor’s Office of Arts and Cultural Affairs (Seattle Arts Commission), 4Culture (King County), and the Washington State Arts Commission, as well as periodic grants from the Nesholm Family Foundation, the advertising support of a large number of businesses, especially on Queen Anne Hill, and the donations of a large number of generous individuals who enjoy our concerts and support our mission.
